Metro International reports revenue decline

Total net revenues at Metro International declined by 26% year on year in the second quarter of 2009, to €60.7 million.

Adjusting for currency movements, closed and divested operations and revenues lost due to the Easter Holidays, net revenues were down 12%.

The company’s total operating loss was €3 million for Q2, while the net loss for the period was €3.7 million.

Operating costs declined year on year in the second quarter by 11% excluding currency movements, one-off items, closed and divested operations.

Overall readership for the group increased year-on-year by 8% for the Group in Q2.

Looking at half-yearly figures, total net revenues decreased by 15%, adjusting for currency movements, closed and divested operations. Total net sales decreased by 25% to €116.3 million.

Metro International’s net loss for the half year was €18.9 million, compared with a loss of €8.3 million last year.
