Michael Heseltine, the President of the Board of Trade has approved the £74.4 million takeover of Newspaper Publishing, by Mirror Group Newspapers.
Michael Heseltine has agreed to the takeover without an inquiry by the Monopolies or Mergers Commission. He said that he was satisfied that The Independent and The Independent on Sunday were not economic as going concerns, and the case was indeed “one of urgency”.
