Terrestrial Channels Win Back Cable Viewers

Terrestrial television channels have won back viewers from cable and satellite, according to the ITC’s annual survey of broadband cable homes. The terrestrial channels have increased their share of viewing from 57.9% in October 1993 to 65.1% in October 1994.

The most viewed cable and satellite channels are Sky One, Sky Movies, The Movie Channel, Sky Sports and UK Gold. MTV’s share of viewing fell from 2% in 1993 to 1.3% in 1994, showing the effect of VH-1 which launched on September 30 and has a share of 0.9%.

Children are heavier viewers of cable and satellite than adults, with 47.3% of their viewing devoted to them.
