Michael Grade has proposed an alliance between Channel 4 and the BBC to strengthen their position against ITV and the satellite broadcasters. Addressing the Broadcasting Press Guild in London yesterday, Grade suggested that C4 and the BBC jointly make and produce programmes and buy in programmes from Hollywood. C4 has tried unsuccessfully to enter into agreements with ITV. The BBC has confirmed that informal discussions with C4 are taking place.

Industrial action is likely to effect BBC programmes on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, after Unions rejected a ‘final offer’ from management in the dispute over pay and conditions.
