BSkyB May Show All Premier Games Digitally

It is rumoured in the national press that British Sky Broadcasting is exploring the possibility of broadcasting all English Premier League games live using digital technology.

BSkyB have already signed digital contracts allowing 120 channels of television to be accessed. Sources in the industry say that the service could be available within a year.

The service would raise additional sums of money for Premier League clubs and would take a pay per match form of viewing.

The date when BSkyB will launch its digital service is still as yet undecided but will depend almost entirely on when the cost of the digital decoder boxes are judged to have come down in price enough for a mass market to develop. The BBC launched an audio digital service for its radio stations last Wednesday; this is expected to aid the development of the decoder market.

BSkyB refused to comment on the rumours this morning.
