NRS Contract Extended As Work Starts On Sections Measurement

The National Readership Survey is about to start the first stages of fieldwork on a qualitative study to enable measurement of readership of newspaper review sections.

Provided the programme is a success, the NRS main survey will be able to supply readership data covering around 90% of the ad revenue placed with national newspapers.

The fieldwork will explore a methodology to include review sections, provided these titles are “sufficiently consistent and well branded to be correctly identified by respondents using only title prompts aids and also that their addition does not disturb the readership levels of titles already collected by the survey.”

It will take six months to test and validate the potential measures, thus making the possibility of NRS starting a new contract in 197 impractical; the NRS Board of Directors has agreed to extend the current contract with RSL.
