Free monthly music magazine The Fly is now the market leader, with a circulation of around 108,000 copies following a year on year increase of 2.4%.

It has overtaken Bauer Consumer Media’s Q, which now has a circulation of just over 100,000 copies after an 11.5% dip.

Kerrang!, also published by Bauer, suffered a heavy loss of 28.3% year on year, leaving its circulation at around 43,000 copies.

Also having a poor six months was IPC’s Indie title NME, down 27.2% year on year to under 41,000 copies.

Earlier this month, Krissi Murison was announced as the first female editor of the NME, taking up the position on 1 September.

Elsewhere, Uncut‘s circulation dropped 12% to under 77,000, while Mojo‘s circulation fell by around 8% to under 98,000 copies.

Future Publishing’s Metal Hammer felt the full force of a 5.2% decrease in circulation, leaving it at 46,000 copies.

However, another Future title, Classic Rock, managed to buck the overall trend among the paid for magazines and increased its total circulation by 5.5% to more than 70,000.
