ITC Flexible Over On-Demand Services
The ITC is prepared to be more flexible over normal programme watersheds when it comes to on-demand services, it has announced. This decision was announced on Friday by the ITC’s Director of Cable and Satellite, Jon Davey, at the Interactive Television Conference in London. The ITC has been considering how its Programme Code should apply to video-on-demand, pay-per-view and near-video-on-demand services.
The current Family Viewing Policy relies on scheduling controls; with the new services there may be acceptable alternatives to prevent unsuitable material being viewed by children on these services. New services where viewers pay to view are likely to involve safeguards that the decision to view is taken by someone properly authorised; eg a PIN number. The ITC is therefore allowing adult material to be shown at any time of day on these services, for an experimental period.
