Online video views continued to reach record levels in the US in December with over 33 billion videos watched during the month.

According to new research for comScore, nearly 178 million US internet users watched an online video during December, with YouTube remaining the top destination for access to online videos.

YouTube accounted for almost 99% of all videos viewed on Google sites, which delivered 13.2 billion videos in total in December.

The research also shows that 134.4 million viewers watched more than 13 billion videos on YouTube.com (which works out as 97.1 videos per viewer).

Hulu ranked second to Google, showing 1 billion videos, which is an all-time high for the site and represents a 3% market share.

Microsoft sites were the third highest, meanwhile, with 561 million videos viewed, followed by Fox Interactive Media and Yahoo! sites.

In terms of viewers, nearly 178 million viewers watched an average of 187 videos per viewer during December.  Google sites attracted 135.8 million unique viewers during the month (97.5 videos per viewer), followed by Yahoo! sites with 59.8 million viewers (9.0 videos per viewer) and Fox Interactive Media with 56.8 million viewers (9.7 videos per viewer).

The average Hulu viewer watched 22.9 videos during the month, representing another all-time high for the site.

In terms of top video ad networks, Tremor Media ranked as the top network with a potential reach of 103.7 million viewers, or 58.3% of the total viewing audience, according to comScore.

BBE came second with a potential reach of 101.1 million viewers (56.9%) followed by Advertising.com with 83.6 million viewers (47.0%).
