Radio Revenue For Q3 1996

Commercial radio revenue continues to grow and estimates show that revenue has broken the £300 million barrier up to September for the first time, giving it an increase of 18.3% on the same quarter last year. Justin Sampson of the Radio Advertising Bureau estimates that revenue grew to £77.4 million for this RAJAR period.

Revenue from national advertisers has also continued to grow more quickly with an annual growth figure of 17.0%. Figures released this week by the Advertising Association show that Commercial Radio has increased its share of the display marketplace with a figure 4.5% for the year to June 96.

Justin Sampson, director of operations at the RAB spoke positively about the Radio Revenue growth saying: “The marketplace context of a slowing in the growth of advertising expenditure as a whole has to be considered when looking at Commercial radio’s revenue performance. The fact that the medium continue to grow at a rate of between 2 and 3 times that of the market is encouraging and points to increments in Commercial Radio’s share of the marketplace”.
