HTV Interims Show Increases
HTV today revealed that profit before tax increased by 10% from £6.1 million in 1995 to £6.7 million (10%) for the half year to June 30 1996. Total turnover increased by 4% from £66.4 million to £69.1 million. Earnings per share were up 14% to 5.70p with dividends at 1.40p from 1.25p.
Looking to the future, HTV said that successful programmes, such as Wycliffe, Poldark, and Famous Five, would be developed into long term projects. New programmes to be screened include Redwall, Dead of the Night and an ITV film which was not yet announced.
At the press conference, HTV revealed a new digital based technology for news broadcasts which will save £2.5 million in franchise costs. The technology allows faster news editing giving journalists the opportunity for last minute editing for stories on or before news broadcasts. HTV is one of the first services to implement the technology which they believe will be used by all television news services within the next four years.
