BBC Release New Channel Details

The BBC and Flextech have outlined the range of channel concepts which will form the basis of their joint venture which was announced at the end of September *BBC Signs Deal With Flextech.

The channel concepts are as follows:

  • Showcase: from Pride and Prejudice to Fawlty Towers, spotlighting “the crown jewels of BBC comedy and drama.”
  • Horizons: screening programmes from the BBC’s factual archives in a “concentrated, accessible form.”
  • Style: a leisure and lifestyle channel covering cookery, gardening, motoring, home-style, antiques and travel.
  • Arena: British culture through daily reviews, special seasons and a range of BBC music, theatre and arts programming.
  • Learning: an educational channel for the family.
  • Sports Entertainment Network: news, entertainment shows, live phone-ins and comment from the BBC’s team of presenters.
  • One-TV: BBC Radio 1 brought to the screen, aimed at 15-24 year-olds with videos drawn from Radio 1’s playlist as well as interviews, events and live packages.
  • BBC Catch-Up TV: showing omnibuses of popular BBC programmes.

These channels are currently set for summer 1997 launch.
