ITV Abandons Euro Rugby Cup

ITV has withdrawn from its agreement to broadcast rugby union’s European Heineken Cup. Discussions were held over the past few weeks but an acceptable agreement could not be reached between ITV and European Rugby Cup Ltd.

ITV’s decision could put the competition in doubt as Heineken need to reassess the financial structure of the tournament.

…According to this weeks press Manchester United has blocked Michael Grade’s attempts to buy the club. It is believed that Mr Grade, the head of Channel 4, has recognised the huge revenue coming from satellite television for football.
