TV Viewing Summary W/e 28/04/96

The first episode in the new series of LWT’s drama series The Knock has entered the top thirty at number 15. Watched by 10.78 million viewers it attracted a consolidated share of viewing of 46%. This was the only ITV programme to get a share of audience over 40% for Sunday night.

BBC2’s coverage of the World Snooker Championship has helped increase the channel’s viewing share which is up from 11.8% last week to 14.6%, with at least one showing of snooker each day attracting over 2 million viewers. This moved the channel’s average weekly viewing from 2 hours 52 minutes last week to 3 hours and 29 minutes this week.

Programmes doing well this week include 25 Years of the Two Ronnies which was watched by 9.09 million people, The Cook Report which had 8.96 million viewers and Great Ormond Street which attracted 8.06 million.

As the weather gets warmer and more people start to plan their holidays so viewing figures start to fall. This week’s viewing summary for all television records a fall in comparison to last week’s total and the total for the same week last year (falling by 3.6% and 4% respectively). In Astra Panel homes viewing for all channels has fallen by 1.5% in comparison to last year’s figure and by 3.9% in comparison to last weeks figure.
