Midland Profits Rise 28%

Midland Independent Newspapers, the regional media group, has announced profits of £16.3m for 1995, up 28% on 1994.

The company also announced successful diversification into specialist magazines and exhibitions, the profitable establishment of a publishing business and the launch of Birmingham L!VE cable channel which has had a good response from advertisers.

Midland’s newspapers, which include the Birmingham Post and the Coventry Evening Telegraph, also had a successful year with four out of its five paid-for titles recording circulation increases.

In terms of future plans Midland is seeking to expand its newspaper division by acquisitions and wants to develop its specialist magazine and exhibition section. The company also expects to see the continued successful development of its cable television activities.
