LinkedIn launches personalised news service

In a bid to keep up with fellow social networking sites, LinkedIn has launched a personalised news service – giving users a reason to visit the site more often.

LinkedIn Today selects and places news stories based on a user’s industry interests, stories that are popular among members of their network, and stories that are popular across the entire LinkedIn network.

The service aims to be easier to use than Google Reader, which requires users to subscribe to feeds, and more focused than Twitter.

Business Insider says the feature will encourage users to visit the network more often and will help boost LinkedIn’s advertising revenue (the site made $18 million from ad revenue in Q3 2010).
