Independent Gets New Funding

The Mirror Group and Independent Newspapers of Ireland, which together own 92% of the Independent and Independent On Sunday , have announced that they will increase the amount of funding for the two papers.

The undisclosed sum is in addition to the extra £23m cash injection which was announced by the Mirror Group and Independent Newspapers in April *£23m Cash Injection For Independent. Both papers have been suffering serious declines in readership, with the latest ABC figures for November showing the Independent‘s sales falling 9.62% year on year to 268,080 and the Sunday title falling by 11.77% to 290,877.
