The new sports daily, Sport First, which was due to hit the news stands yesterday has had its launch date delayed until early August. Bob Harris, editor of the paper said that although they had produced a very successful live dummy, the daily still had teething troubles and he saw no point in launching it until they were completely happy with the format.
The four-colour broadsheet, which will have a cover price of 40p will focus on all the different aspects of sport and features will include a weekly business page, disabled sports, a betting section and regular guest contributors.
The initial print run is estimated at 300 to 400,000 copies which is hoped to settle down to a circulation of around 100,000. Mr Harris says that he is hoping for an ad:ed ratio of 25:75 and although “it is a modest business plan there has been immense interest from all angles.”
