IPA Calls For Change To Sponsorship Rules

The IPA has submitted its recommendations for the ITC review of its Code of Programme Sponsorship, which call for some changes.

The IPA has recommended that the ITC should ensure the same approach for sponsored and non-sponsored programmes on credits; it is also recommending that the rules on the sponsorship of general interest programmes, such as cookery, gardening and motoring, are relaxed so that they are able to be sponsored by related companies.

Andy Troullides, IPA Media Policy Group Member responsible for sponsorship said, “Our view has always been that programme sponsorship is very different to spot commercials; pack-shots have no place in sponsorship credits. In submitting our views we have been very careful to ensure that our recommendations in no way distort the impartial editorial presentation of any programme which is already adequately provided for in the code”.

The ITC is currently reviewing its Sponsorship Code, which was last reviewed two years ago.
