Monarchy Debate Breaks Records For ITV
Unofficial figures show that ITV attracted 8.3 million viewers and a record breaking 2.6 million voters to its phone-in debate programme, Monarchy – The Nation Decides, on Tuesday evening.
The ratings for the Monarchy production were double the expectations for factual programmes and when the programme credits rolled at 11.10pm 7.6 million viewers were still watching.
Monarchy – The Nation Decides, whilst seen by many as a rowdy debacle, does demonstrate the increasing scope for audience interaction with the TV screen and the show’s viewing figures are likely to be a catalyst for similar mass-audience participation debate programmes. Topics for future discussion could include law and order, health and Europe.
