Virgin Media has finally previewed their second screen offering, two years after it was originally announced at TiVo’s launch.
The iPad app is imperative to the company’s Virgin TV Anywhere service, which was announced in early September. The new offering, which is expected sometime this year, will give customers web and iPad access to a TiVo-style service and on-demand content. An Android version is expected early 2013.
Virgin Media have been slow to develop the app, allowing Sky to gain momentum with their innovations.
Virgin TV Anywhere will combine the functionality of BSkyB’s Sky+ and Sky Go apps, allowing users to use the iPad as a remote control, manage and record programmes and view live and on-demand content away from their TV. Crucially, it integrates the exploratory nature of TiVo and popular features; the ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ buttons and recommendations are included.
Virgin TV Anywhere will cover 30 channels from launch but they have yet to be named.
