BSkyB And Cable May Join For PPV Deal
BSkyB and some of the bigger UK cable companies such as Nynex and Telewest are believed to be negotiating a deal which would see their co-operation in the launch of pay-per-view film and sports events.
It is reported that the cable companies, which in the past have always attacked BSkyB’s dominant position in the pay-TV market, would consider an alliance with the satellite broadcaster only if they were considered as equal parties in any joint venture.
The main reason for such a venture is that it would create a better position to negotiate terms from the Hollywood film industry. A single pay-per-view service would also get the benefit of a joint national marketing campaign, with maximum financial muscle.
