BBC News Service Gets Mixed Response

It is not only angered Radio 4 long wave listeners who believe the BBC’s plans for a 24-hour news service is a bad move, according to “Airing the Future” a debate on the future of the BBC, broadcast on Radio 4 yesterday. Charles Wheeler, a broadcaster with the corporation for many years believes it is “the worst idea yet”, claiming that it will put even more pressure on BBC radio journalists and cut down on time for necessary research and original broadcast material.

Sir Robin Day opposed this view saying that he thought it to be “one of the few good ideas the BBC has had”.
