Chrysalis And Border Create Digital Radio Venture
Border TV and Chrysalis Radio have set up a joint venture to bid for regional digital radio licences, it has been announced. Together, the groups will apply for the London and key regional digital licences due to be advertised by the Radio Authority over the next few months. Late last week, the two groups announced a new strategic sales alliance (see Newsline).
In October, the RA awarded the national commercial digital multiplex to Digital One, the digital consortium owned by GWR (57%), NTL (33%) and Talk Radio (10%) (see Newsline).
The joint venture between Border and Chrysalis will apply to act as multiplex operator for the digital licenses covering London, the North West, Yorkshire, West Midlands, North East and Severn Estuary regions. Local multiplexes will be advertised by the RA in batches of three, although each award will be given separately.
Chief executive of Chrysalis Radio, Richard Huntingford, is excited about the venture: “I am delighted that Chrysalis will be teaming up with Border to spearhead this key initiative. As the two largest regional radio groups, we are natural partners to pioneer digital radio in the key regional markets of the UK.”
