Good News For GWR
GWR’s Classic FM announced some findings of a survey called Classic Connections today, showing that over half of its audience have access to a PC. Half of these access their computers from home and two thirds of them spend an average of 7.6 hours on their computers each week.
The station’s director Giles Howard said: “Classic Connections provides us with an invaluable insight into the habits and attitudes of our five million weekly listeners when it comes to information technology and communications.”
Another piece of good news for GWR was announced today, with Ralph Bernard, chief executive of the GWR group, being recognised for his contribution to the independent radio sector by the UK radio industry after 23 years of service. He was made a fellow of the Radio Academy at its annual patrons lunch.
Bernard was responsible for setting up Classic FM. GWR took control of the station in 1996, and he was appointed chief executive. GWR recently recorded a 17% increase in turnover and a 31% increase in pre-ax profit in its interim results (see Newsline).
Bernard commented on the development: “It was a wonderful surprise and a great honour to receive such an accolade from fellow professionals in the most exciting medium in Britain today.”
