The global IPTV (Internet protocol television) subscriber base reached 92.7 million in 2014, according to the Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute (MIC).
Up 23.7% year on year in the first quarter of 2014, MIC attributes the rapid growth to Chinese and Asian Pacific markets, which recorded 45.6 million subscribers in total – almost 50% of the global share.
Subs in Western Europe reached 27.3 million while its global share shrank to 29.4% – partly due to an already-high IPTV penetration.
In North America, with AT&T and Verizon actively promoting IPTV services, the North American IPTV subscriber base arrived at 11.7 million – 12.7% of the global market.
