ITV2 Gets Carriage Deal With Telewest
Digital channel ITV2 will be available on the Telewest cable network from today. The channel, which launched last December (see ITV2 – Not Entirely A Different View) will be accessible to 850,000 more homes throughout England as a result.
From 6pm each day the service will be available in all Telewest homes, the latest figures for which were released by the Independent Television Commission yesterday (see Cable Television Growth Continues). The total number of households now able to access the channel stands at approximately 2 million.
ITV2’s commercial director Andrew Chowns said: “Carriage on Telewest means we have virtually doubled the available audience for ITV2, so it is a huge boost for us. Our opening night features Barcelona V Arsenal live in the UEFA Champions League, and we follow that with extensive live Rugby World Cup coverage. There could not be a more exciting time for Telewest viewers to join us.”
ITV2 is currently available in England and Wales on digital television via ONdigital, the company 50:50 owned by Carlton and Granada. Cable & Wireless Communications and Cable London customers can also receive the channel. Sky Digital subscribers cannot receive either ITV2 or the main ITV channel, as the Network has refused to let its services by carried by Sky, a constant bone of contention for its rival digital broadcaster.
The channel will also be made available on the Eurobell cable network, which serves customers in Kent, Devon and Sussex, from October.
