EMAP To Develop Kiss TV Channel
EMAP is putting together plans to launch a TV channel based on its Kiss 100 FM radio station and Mixmag clubbing title. EMAP is hoping to launch the Kiss Mix channel next year although it is understood that carriage deals have not yet been finalised.
EMAP already has some experience of operating a television channel through its music video station, The Box. Kiss 100, Mixmag and The Box are all part of EMAP’s newly-created Performance Network which brings together all of the media group’s music-related businesses. The launch of a Kiss Mix television channel would represent EMAP’s new culture of developing brands based not around their format – television, radio and so on – but around their subject – music, motoring and so on (see EMAP Creates Dedicated ‘Community Networks’).
Kiss 100 currently has a weekly reach of around 1.3 million listeners, according to the September 1999 RAJAR figures. Mixmag has monthly circulation of just under 70,000 copies according to the January-June 1999 ABC figures. Both are well-established brands which EMAP is hoping will translate successfully to the TV screen.
