Radio Authority Licence News
  • The Radio Authority has awarded the Independent Local Radio licence (IRL) for Kintyre, Islay and Jura to Argyll FM. The station will provide music and conversation to the English and Gaelic-speaking communities in the Argyll FM reception area.
  • After considering the five applications for the new small-scale IRL on the FM waveband for the Lanarkshire area (see Newsline), the RA has awarded it to Clan FM.
  • The Authority received thirteen proposals for its IRL in Bristol/North Somerset (see Newsline), and has decided to award the small-scale licence to each of the three following groups: Bath FM, Breeze 107 and Kute FM.

All of the above licences will come into effect when the groups are ready to begin broadcasting.

  • Pirate FM 102 is to maintain its local radio licence for the Cornwall area for a further 8 years, from 3 April 2000 (see Newsline). The licence has been re-awarded by the RA under the ‘special application procedure’.
