AA Backs Gambling Ad Deregulation
![]()
The Advertising Association has backed proposals to deregulate the advertising of gambling products. The recommendation to lift the remaining bans and restrictions on advertising gambling products and premises formed part of the Gambling Review Report, published by the Gambling Review Body. However, the AA has voiced its opposition to the proposal that advertising regulation for this sector should come under the remit of the Gambling Commission.
Sarah Soltani, director of public affairs for the AA, said: “These proposals are long overdue, particularly bearing in mind the piecemeal deregulation that has been going on since the advent of the National Lottery.”
The AA believes that regulation of gambling advertisements should be dealt with under the existing framework of regulation for other advertising: “At a time when the Government is preaching light touch regulation and the reduction of regulatory overlap, it seems completely illogical to establish yet another advertising regulator.” said Soltani.
