E4 Benefits From Big Brother Effect

Channel 4’s digital entertainment channel E4 is continuing to benefit from the popular second series of reality TV show Big Brother. E4’s share in the first week after the series ended, of 0.77% for individuals in multichannel homes, was still 45% than the average weekly share of viewing for May, before the show started, of 0.53%, according to unofficial overnights.

During Big Brother, E4 averaged a 2.5% share of viewing amongst individuals in multichannel homes, thanks to its live coverage and spin offs such as Big Brother’s Little Brother.

E4’s terrestrial parent channel, Channel 4, saw the show deliver the goods once again this year, despite rivalry from ITV’s Survivor (see Reality Bites For ITV). However, the finale to this year’s show attracted a less viewers than the previous year, with an average 7.98m viewers, compared to 2000’s 9.45m (see Big Brother Finale Gives C4 Largest Ever Friday Night Audience).
