The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) has released regional newspaper figures for the period January to June 2001. The new figures show that the Essex Chronicle has reversed the situation found in the preceding period, by overtaking the West Briton Series as the top weekly title. A year on year analysis shows that the Essex Chronicle saw a 0.1% change to reach just under 50,200, while the West Briton Series saw a 0.3% year on year change but remained just below the 50,000 mark during this period.
Half of the top ten weekly regional titles saw year on year drops in circulation. Worst hit was the Surrey Advertiser which slipped 5.9% to just over 43,000 and the Kent Messenger, down 3.9% at 47,887.
