ABC results for the six-month period ending June 2002 paint a relatively stable picture of music magazine circulation. Music titles saw a 3% increase in overall circulation year on year. The biggest gains were made by Emap titles.

Emap’s niche-market heavy metal favourite Kerrang! was the biggest mover in the sector with a 60% increase, bringing its total circulation to 83,988. Metal Hammer also benefited from the continued renewed interest in nu-metal music with a 15.9% increase in circulation, which brought its total figure to 44,070.

However, market-leader Q easily maintained its pole position for Emap Performance, despite a 10% drop in circulation. It remained head and shoulders above the competition with a total circulation of 180,168. Mojo, another Emap Performance title, saw a 14.9% increase in circulation, breaking the crucial 100,000 mark for the first time with a total circulation of 100,138.Dance music titles continued on their downward trend, with IPC Ignite’s Muzik falling 18.5%, leaving its total circulation looking rather slim at 36,018. Ministry of Sound’s trademark Ministry title was also hit hard, falling 13.6%, bringing its total circulation to 65,030.
