Sugar Launches Blue Issue With Four Special Covers

Hachette Filipacchi’s flagship teenage title, Sugar, is launching a special November issue with four separate front covers featuring different members of the boy band Blue.
The special issue will be covermounted with a ‘destiny kit’, which includes a 52-page destiny book and a pack of fortune cards. The magazine will also come with a free bottle of Boots body lotion.
The title will include an extended interview with Blue and a special competition offering readers the opportunity to win the band’s Calvin Klien underwear. There will also be a promotion offering readers the opportunity to win a VIP night out at a Justin Timberlake concert.
Commenting on the initiative, Clare Irvin, editor of Sugar, commented: “This is the first time Sugar has published multiple covers for the same issue and we are delighted to feature our readers’ favourite band on the cover and in an indulgent six page feature. Readers will get the chance to buy their favourite Blue member or even collect the whole set if they choose.”
The latest ABC results for the six months ending June 2003 show that Sugar saw its circulation decline by 5.8% year on year to 326,185. However, the title remains the clear sector leader.
Hachette Filipacchi’s flagship women’s fashion title, Elle, recently secured American Express to sponsor a special talent search in conjunction with its current ‘long live dreams’ ad campaign (see Elle Secures American Express For Fashion Partnership).
