Future Games is to launch a high end games magazine aimed at twenty-something, gadget loving PlayStation 2 owners.
The new magazine, entitled PSNext, will cover the evolving PlayStation market and has been dubbed the magazine for the “PlayStation 2.5” enthusiast. The specialist magazine will have a cover price of £4. The first two issues of the magazine will be bimonthly, but the title is set to go monthly in September.
The magazine will feature matt laminate cover stock, high quality paper and a remit to use eye catching production techniques such as embossing and foil blocking.
James Binns, who will publish the new title, comments: “We have put together a dream team of talent to create a great magazine. On the production side we’re going to invest the money other games magazines spend on covermounts on top quality print, paper and cover treatments.”
The new title will be edited by Sam Richards, who also edits Official PlayStation 2 Magazine. Commenting on his appointment, Mike Goldsmith, senior editor of Future’s PlayStation portfolio, said: “The PlayStation 2 is heading into uncharted waters and our audience desperately needs a bold, different type of magazine to guide them through it. PSNext will be that guide and Sam’s experience of both games and lifestyle press makes him the perfect man at the helm of such a ground-breaking launch.”
Earlier this year Future Publishing promoted Jayne Caple to advertisement sales director of the group, following the departure of Andrew Milbourn, who left the group last month to to set up his own business (see Future Boosts Management Team With New Appointments).
