Hachette Boosts Marketing Team With Senior Appointment

Hachette Filipacchi has strengthened its senior marketing team with the appointment of Liz Settle to the newly created role of head of strategic marketing.

The new role will see Settle, formerly senior marketing manager of the women’s group, assume responsibility for developing consumer insight and gathering information on consumer trends for all sectors of Hachette’s existing portfolio.

Settle joined Hachette last year from Emap Elan where she worked as marketing manager for the women’s group, which then comprised Elle, Red and New Women. Commenting on her appointment, she said: “Understanding about what people are really like and inventing new products that they actually want is the best thing about marketing, it’s great for both the industry and for consumers when titles do get it right.”

Simon Bell, marketing director at Hachette, added: “Hachette Filipacchi UK continually strives for a better understanding of changing consumer needs, Liz’s considerable experience in this area makes her a valuable asset to the company and her new role.”

The move follows February’s comprehensive restructure of the company’s advertising sales team. The reorganisation saw Hachette’s promotions team become more closely integrated with sales and implementation co-operating on projects rather than working separately, while the teen and women’s groups retained separate promotion teams (see Hachette Filipacchi Restructures Advertising Team).

Rumours had circulated earlier this month that Hachette was preparing a bid for Emap’s former style bible, The Face, though these were quickly quashed by an Emap spokeswoman, stating that Hachette had yet to table a bid for the magazine (see The Face Attracts Attention From Potential Buyers).
