IPC Appoints New Marie Claire Publishing Director

IPC Logo IPC SouthBank has announced that Richard Johnson will be assuming the position of publishing director of Marie Claire, moving from his current role as publishing director of design and lifestyle magazine, Wallpaper.

Johnson will report directly to Jackie Newcombe, who was appointed managing director of SouthBank last month, with Newcombe taking up the position on 3rd January 2006 and overseeing IPC’s portfolio of fashion, women’s general interest and home interest monthlies (see IPC Appoints New MD For SouthBank).

Commenting on the position, Sylvia Auton, IPC Media chief executive said: “Richard, working with his fantastically talented team, has led Wallpaper to new creative and commercial heights. While I know he is sorry to leave such a phenomenal title when it is on the cusp of even greater things, I am delighted that he is joining Marie Claire.”

Newcombe continued: “Richard is a brilliant publisher who has done great things for Wallpaper. I am looking forward to working with him to develop the Marie Claire brand in the UK and on the SouthBank board.”

Johnson added: “I have really enjoyed my time at Wallpaper, it has a fantastic team of people and is a unique brand in magazine publishing. But the opportunity to publish such an influential and renowned title as Marie Claire was one which I couldn’t resist. I’m looking forward to working with Jackie and the Marie Claire team.”

Johnson will take over his new role on January 3rd 2006, when Newcombe assumes the position of SouthBank managing director.

In the latest set of ABC figures, Marie Claire managed to push its circulation total up by a small 0.1% to reach 381,281 (see ABC Results Jan-Jun 2005:Women’s Monthlies Report Mixed Results).
