BBC Mobile Video For Australasia

Sky Logo Mobile users across Australasia will be able to download clips from BBC programmes such as The Office, Little Britain and Doctor Who, after the conclusion of a deal between BBC Worldwide and Vodafone in New Zealand and Australia.

Classic clips, stills, and ring tones from these series and others, including The League of Gentlemen, Goodness Gracious Me, and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps will be available for download.

The deal is the first time that this content has been licensed for mobile download outside the UK, and the first time any BBC content has been made available to mobile users in New Zealand.

Clips will be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in length. Users of 2G phones will be able to purchase all ring tones and stills, and clips up to 2 minutes long.

Louisa Bayles, BBC Worldwide Australasia’s sales manager, Digital Media, said: “Iconic moments from some of the BBC’s most loved programmes are now available any time, any place. As David Brent would say, this deal represents a new Dawn for the BBC.”

Keith O’Brien, head of content for Vodafone, added: “Vodafone is proud to be the first mobile carrier to screen cult TV programs such as The Office and Little Britain. Mobile TV is one of the most popular services on Vodafone live! and we expect the new BBC programs to be a hit with our customers. With Vodafone live! and the BBC comedy programs, commuting to work will never be the same again.”

BBC Worldwide is the main commercial arm of the BBC. In 2005/06 it generated profits of £89 million on sales of £784 million.
