Joost Signs Content Deal With ITN On

Joost IPTV service Joost has signed a content deal with ITN On to provide news, entertainment and sports content on its platform.

The deal will enable Joost viewers to access the latest UK, world, sports, showbiz, weather and business news, in addition to a weekly sports news bulletin ‘Sports Fix’ and daily football show EPL.

The deal will also include a new weekly film-based programme Movie Buff, which features all the latest movie news, red carpet premieres, film reviews and interviews with Hollywood stars.

ITN On will also provide Joost viewers with access to historical content through its ‘On This Day in History’, which features a series of 90-second video vignettes of historical events from ITN’s moving image library.

Nicholas Wheeler, MD of ITN ON, said: “Joost is undoubtedly spearheading the way in making this exciting new phase of television a reality. It’s not going to be easy but ITN has always been a pioneering company and we see our programming as a good fit for an innovative platform like Joost.”

Yvette Alberdingk Thijm, the executive vice president of content strategy and acquisition for Joost, added: “ITN will offer Joost viewers content that appeals to both a UK and global audience.”

In August, founder Janis Friis told delegates at the MGEITF that the signs looked good, with the beta version of the system picking up an increasing number of subscribers (see Joost Ready For Lift Off).

He also said the feedback from the current testing period set to reveal what it is that viewers want to see and how they want to interact with it (see Joost To Provide New Opportunities For Content Owners).
