Virgin Radio Appoints New Head Of Programming

Radio Virgin Radio has appointed former LBC managing director David Lloyd as its programming director.

Lloyd left LBC last month following a management reshuffle by LBC’s new owner Global Radio.

His appointment follows Paul Jackson’s move from programming director to chief executive at the beginning of the year.

MediaGuardian.co.uk quotes Lloyd as saying: “It is clearly very early days but it is a hugely exciting opportunity.

“I have always been intrigued by the Virgin brand and its potential. The time I join the station is an interesting one with [breakfast DJ] Christian O’Connell having signed a new contract and a strong set of RAJARs to build on.

“Leading the programming and developing the radio brand with risk and creativity is something that I am extremely excited about.”

The latest RAJAR figures for Q2 2007 show that Total Virgin Radio had a weekly reach of 2.5 million listeners.
