James Murdoch Could Leave Sky

Sky Box The chief executive of BSkyB, James Murdoch, could leave in the summer in order to join his father, Rupert Murdoch, in the US.

A report in yesterday’s Mail On Sunday, claims that James Murdoch will move to News Corp in the summer and will be replaced at Sky by the head of Sky Italia, Tom Mockridge.

The Mail report added that Rupert Murdoch had been keen for his son to return to the US last year.

The Office of Fair Trading recently issued a statement asking for interested parties to comment on the deal which saw BSkyB acquire a 17.5% stake in ITV (see OFT Invites Comments On Sky Stake In ITV).

At the start of January it was revealed that the total number of Sky+ boxes installed in people’s homes had broken the 2 million barrier for the first time, with the number of boxes growing by more than 50% in 2006 (see NewsLine).
