Outdoor Records Record Revenues

Tube Ads Digital Outdoor revenues closed in on £10 million in the final quarter of last year, with total revenues reaching a record £257 million, according to the Outdoor Advertising Association.

The total was up by more than 7% year on year for the quarter, attributed mainly to an increase in spending by entertainment and retail clients.

In the whole of 2006, the Outdoor industry achieved revenues of £932.7 million, up 4% and again a record for the sector.

“For the 18th consecutive quarter, Outdoor has posted a year on year increase – something only the internet can match,” said Outdoor Advertising Association chief executive Alan James.

Fourth quarter revenues from digital Outdoor media, which are included within the overall figures, grew 17% year on year from £7.5 million to £8.7 million.

Entertainment and telecoms clients were again the highest spenders while at the level of individual clients, Sky overtook Vodafone as the biggest spender on Outdoor, according to figures from Nielsen.

In Q4, broadcaster Sky spent £6.6 million, an increase of 67%, while telecoms company Vodafone spent £6.1 million, an increase of 3.5%.
