BSkyB Setback Over Pirate Cards

BSkyB’s attempts to prevent the distribution in Ireland and Europe of pirated “smart cards” suffered a serious setback yesterday. The High Court in Dublin rejected a claim by BSkyB for a temporary restraining order pending trial, against David Lyons, who has been distributing the cards.

The rejection was made because BSkyB failed to produce enough evidence to prove that there was infringement of copyright.

80% of BSkyB’s income comes from subscriptions.
