Co-Founder Buys 5.15% Stake In Endemol

John de Mol has taken a 5.15% stake in Endemol, the production company that he co-founded and helped to run.

According to a report in the Guardian, Dutch regulators today announced that deMol’s investment vehicle, Cyrte, has taken its stake in the company to above 5%, the level at which a shareholding must be declared in the Netherlands.

Endemol was founded in 1994 by a merger of television production companies owned by Joop van den Ende and John de Mol and became famous for the success of the reality show Big Brother.

De Mol and Den Ende sold their stakes in Endemol to Telefonica in 2000 in a deal making both men billionaires. De Mol remained as Endemol’s creative director until 2004.
