Rupert Murdoch Could Bid For Endemol

Rupert Murdoch has emerged as a potential bidder for Big Brother producer Endemol.

A report in Spanish newspaper La Gaceta claims that Murdoch is interested in buying Telefonica’s 75% stake in the production company.

Telefonica is expected to launch a formal auction for Endemol within weeks, says today’s Times, having tabled a meeting with Merrill Lynch today about the sale of the three quarters of the company which it owns.

MediaTel INSIGHT reported yesterday that John de Mol, co-founder of Endemol, is believed to be in discussions with Disney about the possibility of placing a joint bid for the company (see Disney Could Join De Mol In Endemol Bid).

It was announced by Dutch regulators last week that de Mol’s investment vehicle, Cyrte, had taken its stake in Endemol to over 5% (see Co-Founder Buys 5.15% Stake In Endemol).
