The Independent Television Commission has issued a statement following the first meeting to discuss the Channel 5 applications. The statement makes clear the ITC view on the two applications with identical cash bids; those from Channel 5 Broadcasting Ltd and Virgin TV Ltd.
The ITC makes it clear that it would regard any collusion between applicants as “wholly unacceptable”; applicants found to have colluded would be rejected, and if any collusion came to light after the granting of a licence, that licence would be revoked.
Both Channel 5 Broadcasting Ltd and Virgin TV will be required to make formal undertakings with the ITC in relation to collusion – the ITC will then consider if further investigation is needed.
