Southern, the newspapers group which floated on the AIM last year, has unofficially been linked in a bid for the set of local newspapers put up for sale by United News & Media.
A spokesperson from Southern said: “No official statement has been made but Southern has had its name linked with the titles.”
United News & Media set a price tag of £40m on UPN Wales and UPN South East last month *(United Set For Regional Sell-Off), which include the Llanelli News and Enfield Advertiser.
…Southern also reported that profit before tax was up by 62.4% from £11.57m to £18.79m in the year to June 29. Operating profits were up by 1.2% from £11.4m to £11.6m. A final dividend of 13.25p per £1 ordinary share was recommended by The Board, making a total of 17.75p (an increase of 14.5%).
