New Sunday Paper To Launch
A new middle market Sunday newspaper with an environmental slant called The Planet on Sunday is due to launch on June 16th.
The paper, set up by Austin Mitchell from the Sunday Sport, will have an initial print-run of 600,000, have 48 pages and cost around 65p. It is believed that the launch fund of £500,000 will be provided by the newspaper’s owner Clifford Hards, a holiday and travel businessman. Sports coverage will be provided by the Press Association. Who will handle advertising sales is yet to be decided.
The paper will be produced by a small team of journalists in Birmingham. Austin Mitchell, who will also be editing the title, said: “We are aiming at the middle market and will directly compete with The Mail on Sunday and The Sunday Express. However, The Planet on Sunday will be the first national to consciously explore the idea that what goes around comes around in terms of environment and lifestyle and how it affects us, our children and the planet.”
