Rupert Murdoch plans to extend The Daily‘s two-week free trial (sponsored by Verizon) for “several more weeks at least”, according to paidContent.org.

The newspaper iPad app launched with a two-week trial in a bid to encourage potential subscribers but due to a number of ‘glitches’ with the launch issues, News Corp plans to extend the free trial to give people a ‘real taster’.

Verizon will continue as the trial sponsor. It is thought the free trial will end once the problems with the app have been resolved.

To sign up, The Daily will cost users 99 cents a week or $39.99 a year.

Even with the free trial period, subscriptions started to sell as soon as The Daily went live, exceeding News Corporation’s expectations, according to The Daily‘s publisher Greg Clayman.
