Bell Cablemedia Wins New Licence

The ITC has awarded the local cable delivery licence for Southern County Durham and North Yorkshire to Bell Cablemedia.

Bell Cablemedia, which is one of the largest cable companies in the UK providing service to 1.6 million homes, was the highest bidder with a figure of £1.7m . The new franchise area covers the districts of Sedgefield, Wear Valley and Teesdale in County Durham and of Scarborough and Thirsk in North Yorkshire.

The company has made a commitment to offer service to 132,000 homes in the course of a build programme ending in 2002.

The ITC is inviting applications for a local delivery licence for Central Cumbria. The advertised area comprises about 84,000 homes and encompasses he northern part of the Lake District. The deadline for applications is 15th July.
